Steve from Maitland lost his son Harley this March in a motorcycle accident. He has been trying to erect a roadside memorial as tribute to his son but on three occasions, when crosses have been placed on the site, they have all been taken away, adding further agony to Steve and his family.
Steve shared with Tanya and Steve on Triple M Newcastle this morning that he has had confirmation from the local council that these tributes are legal and they are so important for families to remember where their loved ones took their last breath.
Especially in this case where Harley’s son was born just four weeks after his passing, making it even more important for Steve that he can mourn his son and grieve with his grandchild.
The removal of the crosses is therefore deeply upsetting for their family.
“We hope the person who is removing the crosses is listening and they’ve learned it is legal and you just want to be able take [your grandson] there so he can pay respects to his dad,” empathised Tanya.
Tanya and Steve, and all of us at Triple M Newy share our condolences with Steve and his family on their terrible loss.
