Teenager Driver Bailed After Alleged Hit-And-Run In Sydney’s North Shore

A teenage driver was granted bail in court today after allegedly running a red light and hitting three schoolboys crossing on Sydney’s lower north shore and driving away from the crash. 

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Falcon Street and the Pacific Highway, Crows Nest, about 3:30pm yesterday.  

Police said the boys were crossing during a green pedestrian signal when the car struck them.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 13-year-old and 12-year-old boys at the scene before taking them to hospitals.  

The 13-year-old was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital, suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while two 12-year-olds suffered minor injuries and were sent to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. 

The driver has been identified as an 18-year-old man, Vansh Khanna. He was arrested 30 minutes after the crash and faced Manly Local Court this morning.  

According to Nine News, Khanna is studying at Macquarie University on a three-year student visa. He arrived in Sydney in February this year.  

Khanna’s Honda Accord has been seized for mechanical and forensic examination.  

He was charged with seven offences, including dangerous driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), and two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle. 

He was also charged with failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, failing to stop and assist after impact causing injury, and proceeding through red traffic light. 

Khanna was granted bail today on the condition to report to Chatwood police daily. He also handed over his passport and his international driver’s licence.  

Khanna is expected to face court for mention on June 8.
