Stevie J Backs In Tom Hawkins Despite Goalless Form Slump

Steve Johnson believes there’s no concern for Tom Hawkins and Geelong, despite the key forward going goalless over the past four weeks.

“He’ll find a way to hit the scoreboard,” Johnson told the Sunday Rub.

“You don’t need him to be Hawkins of 2011 … Geelong’s doing enough.”

Johnson argues an uneven pre-season has played a role in the veteran’s slow start to the season.

“Reasons behind that is partly due to his off-season, not at full fitness, had a foot injury, hotspot in the foot, missed big chunks of the pre-season”

It marks the first time in Hawkins’ 354-game career he has been kept goalless across a four-game span.
