Australia made it three World Cup victories in a row in the Caribbean in 2007.
And – according to two of the squad members in Brad Hodge and Adam Gilchrist – things got pretty big afterwards.
The two reunited on Willow Talk to relive that famous series in 2007, which ended with a few days of chaos, including a wild Gilly press conference after an all-nighter, a teammate locking himself in a toilet to get himself a few hours’ sleep and a near “fatality” on a jet ski off James Packer’s boat.
“I remember doing a press conference there, I hadn’t slept and I was asked how many World Cups for me – for ‘Pigeon’ (Glenn McGrath), ‘Punter’ (Ricky Ponting) and myself,” Gilchrist explained.
“In front of the cameras, oh yeah, I just put my hands up, I said three. But I was holding four fingers up! Then Pigeon, he had his hand around my shoulder, he just leant over and goes and put one of my fingers down like that and just left three sitting there!
“So I got a message from Mel back home saying ‘no more press conferences please, until you get home!'”
