In a recent chat with Pete and Kymba, Ant Middleton opened up about the emotional rollercoaster that is Million Dollar Island.
The show, which sees 100 contestants stranded on a remote island with the goal of winning $1 million, has been praised for its intense challenges and high stakes. But as Middleton revealed, the show also takes a toll on the contestants’ mental and emotional health.

“It’s a very intense experience,” Middleton said. “The contestants are constantly under pressure, both physically and mentally. They have to make tough decisions, and they’re constantly worried about their safety. It’s not surprising that some of them start to crack.”
Middleton himself has seen contestants break down in tears, and he’s even had to intervene to prevent some of them from quitting. “It’s heartbreaking to see,” he said. “But it’s also a reminder of the human spirit. These people are incredibly resilient, and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to win.”
In addition to the physical and mental challenges, Million Dollar Island also tests the contestants’ relationships. “There’s a lot of backstabbing and betrayal,” Middleton said. “People are constantly trying to outmaneuver each other. It can be very stressful.”
Despite the challenges, Middleton said that Million Dollar Island is a “unique and authentic” experience. “It’s a real test of character,” he said. “And it’s a show that will stay with you long after you’ve finished watching it.”
If you’re looking for a reality show that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster, then Million Dollar Island is definitely worth checking out. The show is currently airing on Channel 7 in Australia, and it will be available on Netflix later this year.
