While the AFL has reserved its right to penalise the Hawthorn Football Club after its independent investigation into racism at the club concluded, Joey Montagna says draft picks should not be part of any sanction.
“I don’t think draft picks are fair,” Joey said on the Midweek Rub.
“I think draft picks, Damo, should be taken away when a club tries to get an unfair advantage on the competition.
“For something like this, I hope it’s just a substantial fine.”
Damian Barrett also had his say, stating draft pick sanctions have not been ruled out.
“There’s no guarantee that draft picks will be removed, but I also believe strongly that fines… they don’t cut it to me. I don’t think it’s a deterrent enough.”
