Nick Kyrgios announces retirement from singles in the Australian Open.

Nick Kyrgios may have played his last Aussie Open singles match

Nick Kyrgios seems to have called time on his singles career in the Australian Open, saying he’s unlikely to play at Melbourne Park again.

“I didn’t want to throw in the towel and walk off or retire or, you know, I was. Was hurting physically, but I respect my opponent. Fans that waited hours to come see me play.”

“Yeah, I mean, realistically, I probably can’t see myself playing single as much here.”

His comments came after he crashed out in the opening round to Brit Jacob Fearnley.

Nick Kyrgios hasn’t played a grand slam in two years due to injury. He says he will continue this year’s grand slam season focusing on Wimbledon and doubles matches with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.
