AI Could Be Taking Our Jobs Sooner Than We Think

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the past year, you’ve probably noticed the growing presence and advancements in the world of artificial intelligence.

With programs like ChatGPT becoming more intuitive and Australians using AI to save them time at work, could the need for humans in the workforce soon become obsolete?

Joining Sarah Grynberg for her A Life Of Greatness podcast is Walkey Award-winning journalist Tracey Spicer.

Tracey Spicer: Is Artificial Intelligence Good or Evil

Tracey has had a colourful career, becoming an activist for equality in the workplace after being unfairly dismissed from a job as a result of age and maternity discrimination.

“They were trying to get rid of me when I gave birth to my first child by replacing me with younger presenters, even though I was only in my late thirties at that stage,” she said.

“That was an era where TV newsreaders, if you are female, you were sexualised and once you started to have children, it was like, hang on, you are not seen as a sex object anymore.”

Throughout her illustrious career, she has tackled a number of impressive accolades including New South Wales Premier’s Woman of the Year, the national award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership and Women’s Agenda Setter of the year for her notable experience in addressing tough societal topics.

One of Tracey’s most recent deep dives has been into the world of artificial intelligence and its frightening impact on society. Tracey believes that AI is something we should all be wary of with the technology threatening thousands of jobs with every advancement.

“Technology is improving exponentially. And while we all had our eyes on COVID 19 during the pandemic, this technology was replicating and improving, almost like, you know, Skynet or Terminator or something,” she said.

“We’re living through the fourth industrial revolution – but I’m a glass half full kind of gal. I think there will be job losses, but there will also be job creation, and we’ve got to get on to this now so we’re in control of the technology instead of it being in control of us.”
