Following today’s official announcement that Damien Hardwick has stood down as senior coach of Richmond, Tigers president John O’Rourke joined Triple M’s Rush Hour with JB & Billy.
O’Rourke reflected on how Hardwick’s resignation panned out, his contribution to the club and addressed Dimma’s next steps.
“It certainly did take me by surprise,” O’Rourke said.
“I received a call from Brendon Gale on Sunday evening after he’d spent a couple of hours with Damien.”
“He goes out with his head held really high. I thought he spoke really well and it’s a selfless act at the end of the day.”
“He’s doing what he thinks is in the best interest of the club.”
O’Rourke also discussed if Richmond tried to talk Hardwick out of standing down and if he expects the 3-time premiership coach to be leading another club in 2024.
