On Triple M’s Midweek Rub, Joey Montagna went in-depth on the remarkable rise of Nick Daicos and how Craig McRae has given him the freedom to dominate off half-back.
“The way that Craig McRae is using him and the licence he has to play and chase the ball is very rare… he’s just got this freedom to go and chase the footy, and their system allows that,” Joey said.
“They are maximising his potential which is part, I think, the beauty.”
Daicos racked up 40 disposals to go with two vital goals in the fourth quarter which helped the Pies overcome a 28-point deficit at three quarter time on ANZAC Day.
He was the outright favourite for the ANZAC Day medal, but Joey think the Pies have set their system up to relieve him of any pressure to perform.
“You talk about the pressure he’s under, I almost think it’s the opposite… he just goes out there and plays with the freedom of an under 14s kid that’s the best player on the ground.”
