The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has invalidated an appeal by Chiles’s coach, Cecile Landi, which had initially elevated Jordan Chiles to third place in the Paris Olympics floor exercise.
CAS ruled that the appeal was lodged four seconds beyond the one-minute time limit for scoring inquiries.

USA Gymnastics disputes this, asserting that video evidence shows Landi appealed within the allotted time.
CAS determined that the appeal was made one minute and four seconds after the initial score was posted, resulting in the reallocation of the bronze medal to Romania’s Ana Barbosu.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have confirmed the medal will be reassigned, with the IOC overseeing the return of Chiles’s medal.
The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has expressed strong objections.
“We firmly believe that Jordan rightfully earned the bronze medal, and there were critical errors in both the initial scoring by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the subsequent CAS appeal process that need to be addressed,” the USOPC said in a statement.
Chiles’s teammates, including Simone Biles, have shown support. “Sending you so much love, Jordan,” Biles posted on Instagram.
“Keep your chin up ‘Olympic champ,’ we love you.”
The USOPC has not yet specified their next steps but may appeal to the Swiss Tribunal or the European Court of Human Rights.
