Two allegedly brought loaded guns to the MCG Pies-Blues clash

Two men have been charged after allegedly bringing loaded guns into the MCG during an AFL match between Collingwood and Carlton.

The pair, aged 21 and 37, refused to leave after causing chaos in the stands in front of 82,000 people.

Listen on The National Briefing:

Security called police to assist with the men who refused to leave the MCG after their disruptive behaviour at about 8.30 pm.

As a consequence, police arrested the men and during a search it is alleged that each man was in possession of a firearm.

The venue is now under pressure to explain how the men managed to bypass new AI security scanners and high-tech security gates last night.

Before the 2024 season, fans would be individually scanned with a metal detector. The new system screens fans as they walk through entry gates.
