Police have launched an investigation into the stabbing death of a three-year-old in a south Sydney home on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to an apartment at Riverwood at around 4PM following reports of a domestic violence incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found a three-year-old boy deceased from apparent stab wounds.
A 45-year-old man was hospitalised with serious injuries and has since undergone surgery.
The man is now believed to be in stable condition.
A woman living at the unit is believed to have called police to report the incident.
According to Superintendent Sheridan Waldau, the child’s mother “passed away a couple of years ago.”
“This is obviously a horrific incident,” she said.
A crime scene has been established at the unit complex where family members of the child gathered in the hours following the incident.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
