Peter Dutton on track for major election win

New polling shows Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has a strong chance of defeating Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the upcoming federal election.

Accent Research and the RedBridge Group surveyed 5,000 people and found that if the election were held currently, the Coalition would pick up nine seats and form a majority government.

The survey shows New South Wales will be central to the outcome, with at least five seats likely to become the Coalition’s and another seven lineball.

Meanwhile, in Victoria, one seat will likely change hands while another five are too close to call.

Governments have come back from worse polls than this, but it poses concerns for Albanese heading into the holiday period and a likely election in May next year.

The survey results come as it’s being reported Dutton will release costings for his nuclear energy plans sometime next week.

Dutton will hope to undermine the criticism that nuclear energy will cost too much by claiming it’ll actually be cheaper than Labor’s plans for the energy transition using renewable energy.

Australians will be interested in seeing the Coalition’s numbers, as nuclear power is one of the most expensive compared to solar energy.
