The 72-year-old is currently battling blood cancer, myeloma, but has told the board he will remain in his position until he feels the time is right.

Browne’s departure is not expected to happen soon, especially as Collingwood faces internal challenges.
The club is dealing with the departure of football boss Graham Wright and the controversy surrounding CEO Craig Kelly, who has been accused of racism by a former employee.
There are also reports of “significant tensions” between Wright and Kelly, both members of Collingwood’s 1990 premiership team.
Despite being up for re-election this year, Browne is expected to initiate a succession plan and leave within the next 12 months.
Browne took over as president at the end of 2021 following Eddie McGuire’s departure.
He was diagnosed with myeloma in September 2023 but kept the news private during the club’s premiership celebrations.
“It’s like a football club … You know, you finish 17th two years ago and you win the premiership two years later,” Browne said. “I’m determined to beat it … and I’ve got too much to do in my life.”
