How Chrissy Amphlett’s Legacy Has Grown A Decade After Her Passing

This month marks ten years since we lost the iconic musician Chrissy Amphlett.

The Divinyls singer died on April 21, 2013, after losing her battle with breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Since her passing Chrissy’s legacy has been established as one of Australia’s most influential performers.

Artists from Pink to Peter Garrett, Tina Arena to Something for Kate have covered Divinyls songs and there’s now a Chrissy Amphlett Lane in Melbourne in her honour.

The No.1 hit I Touch Myself has also taken on a new life as an anthem for people to check their own bodies for signs of breast cancer.

Tennis legend Serena Williams even released a version of the song, which broke Instagram records at the time.

However Chrissy and bandmate Mark McEntee had the most unlikely of beginnings.

They met in an unusual situation and within days had written their debut single Boys in Town.

In a new podcast, Behind the Hits delves into the wild history of Chrissy and Divinyls, who went from the pub scene, to the US Top 10. Listen Below
