In the wake of the horrifying child adduction news allegedly out of Warnbro on Friday just gone, Pete, Matt and Kymba spoke exclusively with an expert on the dos and do nots of teaching our children about how to be aware and vigilant out there in the world.
Here is our chat with PB West’s Jodie Ferguson, in full, uncut. A must listen for every parent out there.
LISTEN:
Jodie gave some key take outs, including the early warning signs for someone showing signs of being an “unsafe” person.
“So we don’t really talk about stranger danger, but because we know that there are tricky behaviours of unsafe people, even if they are people that the child knows… we teach them how to look out for some of those tricky behaviours, and to listen what we call their ‘early warning signs’,
“I always refer to it as a built in alarm system in our body.”
Jodie also shares some key insights into how much parenting impacts our kids,
“We learn our parenting techniques from our parents, I just want to say that, that’s how it goes,
“Pretty much, we go to our default programming if we don’t put much into it,
“When we have great parents that teach us great ways, then we learn great skills.”
