Steph Claire-Smith Calls Out Double Standard For Stay-At-Home Parents

Popular entrepreneur and co-host of KICPOD praises her stay-at-home husband but questions why we don’t applaud women for the same job.

In a recent interview on the podcast Dr. Golly and the Experts, Claire-Smith spoke about the double standard that exists for fathers and mothers. She said that she often sees her friends who are mothers not receive the same praise as her husband, Josh Miller, who is a stay-at-home dad.

“He’s the best,” Steph Claire-Smith said of her husband, Josh Miller. “I just think it’s a really interesting way we look at it because I think regardless of gender or whether you’re working or you’re a stay-at-home parent, everyone deserves the praise.”

“That just goes to show that the gender pay gap is still there.”

Miller revealed that the most common question he gets asked as a stay-at-home dad from both men and women is how he can afford not to work. It’s not a question he thinks that stay-at-home mums get asked.

Claire-Smith agreed, going on to say that this question demonstrates the gender pay gap between men and women – given it’s assumed that the person who earns the most money will be the one that goes back to work.
