Damian Barrett Blasts The Gold Coast Board’s “Appalling” Handling Of The Stuart Dew Situation

Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett has blasted the Gold Coast board’s “appalling” handling of the sacking of Stuart Dew.

DAMO ON GOLD COAST’S APPALLING HANDLING OF STUART DEW:

“When they re-contracted him 53 weeks ago, I felt that was the time to let the season play out or move him on, but that’s just me saying I don’t have an issue with him not being there,” Damo said on the Midweek Rub.

“But I do have an issue with them making that decision last year and then giving him just 16 matches beyond that point of a two year contract they gave him.

“And particularly when I refer to the appalling nature of it, the manner in which the past week to 10 days has been handled publicly.”

Damo asked how the Gold Coast board could justify making the call to sack Dew without questioning their own role in the situation.

“Bob East now has been chairperson of this football club since March, when Tony Cochrane stood down,” Damo said.

“But then have a look at the CV… he’s been on the board of the Gold Coast Suns since its inception in 2011.

“Guy McKenna was coach then, he was sacked, moved on.

“Rodney Eade was replacing him, he was sacked, moved on.

“Stuart Dew… as of this week, sacked and moved on.

“I don’t see how Bob East can demand excellence of this footy club, and talk about next steps without properly analysing him and his own board’s involvement in what has been a mess.”

MORE ON STUART DEW’S SACKING:

Damo also cast some doubt over how unanimous the decision to sack Dew was.

“While Bob East wanted to present yesterday a unanimous decision on the tenure of Stuart Dew, there’s enough narrative out there that there was at least some opposition to it,” he said.

“So whether it was when the vote came up all hands were up or whatever, but there was some pushback on it.”

MORE REACTION TO DEW’S SACKING:

On today’s Midweek Rub Damo, Daisy Thomas and Joey Montagna also discussed Bailey Smith’s struggles on and off-field, Christian Petracca playing as a forward, Daisy needing a minder on holidays and more.
