BREAKING: Dezi Freeman shot dead by police

A man believed to be fugitive Dezi Freeman has been shot and killed by police on Monday morning at a rural property near Porepunkah, Victoria, ending a six-month manhunt.

Officers were tipped off that Freeman was allegedly hiding inside a shipping container on the property, and the fatal shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time.

Victorian Police confirmed in a brief statement that no officers were injured and that the Professional Standards Command would oversee the investigation, as is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.

Freeman had been wanted since August 26, 2025, when two officers, Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 35, and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, were fatally shot at a property in the same area.
