Tara Moss on pain, prejudice and new projects

Who can say they have written 14 books, is a documentary maker, television presenter, a journalist and most recently, a disability advocate?

Best-selling Canadian-Australian author Tara Moss can.

In this episode of The Briefing, Tara revealed to host Jamila Rizvi that it hasn’t been an easy road to becoming a best-selling author, battling chronic pain that left her struggling to get off the couch on some days.

“Just because we got up from the couch two hours earlier, doesn’t mean we’re faking it when we can’t get up from the couch later … as someone in the public eye trying to speak about this stuff, break down some of the taboos and stigma,” she said.

“I’m doing it for me, I’m doing it for my daughter. I’m doing it for the millions of people with disabilities and chronic illnesses who are misunderstood, but I’m also doing it for the slightly younger me who just did not understand what was going on.”

Tara also chats about the amount of research she undertakes to write a novel, her body image, her personal work ethic, and the loss of her mother when she was still young.
