The cricketing match up between South Australia and Victoria is always a spicy one, and former combatants Merv Hughes, Greg Blewett and James Brayshaw recently shared some of their favourite Sheffield Shield sledgers on Triple M’s cricket coverage.
“When you (Victoria) were at your sort of best, in other words full strength, it used to be [Darren] Berry, [Simon] O’Donnell, [Shane] Warne, [Dean] Jones… all competing with themselves to sledge as hard as they could,” JB recalled to Merv.
“Yeah, they couldn’t wait for someone else to stop talking so then they could have a go,” Blewey agreed.

The discussion came up from the boys reminiscing about the one time Merv captained Victoria.
He took the reins for one session as the Vics got belted around, and our stats man Ethan found the scorecard.
Tons to Blewey and JB (then going by Jamie Brayshaw) if you don’t mind!
South Australia went on to win the game by an innings and 42 runs.
Merv Hughes’s contribution to the match was 0/107 with the ball, and 29 (run out) and 1 (caught by JB) with the bat.
MORE FROM TRIPLE M CRICKET:
It was telling, however, that all the best sledging contributions came from the Victorians!
