Tragedy strikes as two men have died in a light plane crash near Boonah in Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, located across the road from the Boonah Golf Club, shortly before midday Sunday.
The incident involved a light plane reportedly taking off from Boonah Airfield and attempting to land when tragedy struck.
Acting Inspector Kerry Olsen provided preliminary details about the incident, stating, “Tragically, two people have lost their lives as a result of that crash. Emergency services are still on the scene”.
The crash occurred as the pilot was attempting to land at Boonah Airfield.
“We have police with the families of the two persons who were on that plane. We wish those families every possible amount of support,” Inspector Olsen added.
The victims have been identified as a 69-year-old man and an 82-year-old man.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified of the crash.
Although they will not be physically present at the scene, they will contribute to the investigation and provide subject matter expertise.
Local authorities believe that nearby golfers were the ones who alerted emergency services to the crash.
As the investigation continues, police are urging individuals with footage of planes flying in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
