Joey Montagna has called for the AFL and its supporters to celebrate Buddy Franklin in what could be his final season of a ‘top five all-time’ career.
“We are talking, I think, top five all-time,” Joey said of Buddy on the Midweek Rub.
“Very rarely do we get to see players that are going to sit on the Mount Rushmore of our version of AFL.
“I think we need to celebrate our champions more… remember Gary Ablett Jr was getting booed? I would love for us to just appreciate and celebrate however many games he’s got left.”
“Make it official, and let’s make every game he’s got now a celebration because he still does travel to Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, he’s only got a couple games left in Melbourne.”
Daisy Thomas backed up Joey’s comments on Buddy, who signed on with the Swans for one more season in Grand Final week last year.
“His form is probably matching where he’s at in his career… we don’t want to be the first to sort of retire him or write him off, but I think we just appreciate the fact he’s still out there.”
