On day two at Lord’s, Steve Smith scored his 32nd Test match century for Australia, putting him equal second alongside Steve Waugh for the second most in the Baggy Green.
All that stands before Smith on that list is Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting, who has 41 Test hundreds, but Brad Haddin explains the only thing that might stop Smith from taking over top spot.
BRAD HADDIN BREAKS DOWN STEVE SMITH’S BRILLIANT TEST CENTURY AND WHAT COMES NEXT ON THE WILLOW TALK PODCAST:
Smith did pinch one record off Ponting at Lord’s – he now holds the record for scoring 32 Test tons in the fewest innings.
It took Smith 174 innings to reach the milestone, two innings fewer than Ponting.
Smith now has 12 Test centuries against England – eight of those coming in the UK – so with a possible seven innings left this series, the prolific right-hander could be well on his way to 41 by summer’s end.
