Brent Read joined The Rush Hour with Gus, Jude & Wendell and gave an update on the Penrith Panthers hopes of re-signing Taylan May amidst more salary cap pressure.
LISTEN HERE:
“They’ve prioritised Taylan May.
“They prioritised Izack Tago, they’ve got him locked away.
“May was the next bloke off the ranks and they’ve put an offer ($1.5m over three years).
“He’s weighing that up but Turuva’s the guy sort of left over.”
Though, as much as Penrith Panthers value May, the salary cap squeeze of retaining as many of his Premiership winning teammates is just not realistic.
And it has NRL rivals circling the waters, as reports state that St George Illawarra Dragons aren’t just ready to make a play for Taylan but also his brother Terrell (Sydney Roosters) and Tyrone (English Super League).
It has been well reported that the three brothers have a desire to link up together and it’s presenting a problem for the reigning three-time champions.
“He’s a valuable member to [the Panthers] but he’s probably more valuable to other clubs.
“Penrith simply don’t have the money to keep all those guys.
