Smith, a premiership winner at the Melbourne Storm moved north of the Victorian border with a lot of expectations, linking with a Chooks outfit earmarked as premiership contenders.
Though, a rollercoaster became the theme of the club’s 2023 season and Smith opened up on the biggest difference he realised whilst living in Sydney.
“If you’re a Sydney team you’re all over the papers,” said Smith.
“If you’re having a bad game, the individualise people here and rightly so.
“It’s what everyone wants to read about, it’s what sells paper.
“But in Melbourne that just does not exist.”
It wasn’t just the sporting media Smith found trouble with but also the lifestyle.
“There’s a lot of advantages to being at Melbourne,” continued Smith.
“When you go out, no one knows who you are.
“No one’s going to annoy you.”
