Leading NRL journalist Brent Read has revealed contract talks surrounding an extension for Sharks superstar Nicho Hynes are on a “hiatus”, due to the uncertainty around the salary cap and the playmaker’s value on the open market.

Hynes, 26, is under contract until the end of 2024, on a deal worth in the ballpark of $600,000 according to Read.
But talks surrounding an extension for the reigning Dally M Medal winner have proven difficult so far.
And with Hynes’ rise to one of the NRL’s elite, a hefty pay packet appears inevitable, the leading NRL journalist revealed.
“He’s on a pretty bargain basement deal when you consider his standing in the game,” Read said on Triple M’s Monday Scrum.
