A resolution between the Rugby League Players’ Association and National Rugby League over the next Collective Bargaining Agreement doesn’t appear to be on the horizon, with attention now turning to those who are covering the dispute.
The RLPA has boycotted most media commitments for its players, with reports from the league’s leading journalists saying the players’ union has advised the reporters to change their tune or expect limited access to the game’s stars.
LISTEN TO DANNY WEIDLER, MICHAEL CHAMMAS AND ADAM PEACOCK SLAM THE RLPA OVER ITS LATEST ACTION ON THE FOOTY TALK PODCAST:
“I don’t have a side in this,” Weidler said. “I think both sides made mistakes.
“Both Andrew Abdo and Clint Newton could have done a lot better.
“I was trying to find out about the Bradman Best news conference, because players were meant to be on a media ban.
“I rang the RLPA to ask if this was kosher … I just wanted to find out how it happened.
“(The RLPA said) ‘We know about it but we’re not going to tell you’.
“Now that’s the most childish response you can give to a media representative because I was trying to be balanced in my reporting.”
