This might seem like a strange subject to cover for professional rugby league players, but given the laws and pace of the game, and the NRL Match Review Committee’s stance on high tackles and hip drops, now is a good time for a refresher.
And who better than Gorden Tallis, the feared enforcer who played in era where almost anything went to commentating on the modern game which has changed so much.

“The beautiful, low leg tackle is fantastic,” Tallis said on Footy Talk.
“It still works, there’s still a position for it in the game.
“But it doesn’t get rewarded, because if someone tackles you around the legs, you normally fall on your front, you get up and play the ball quick.
“It doesn’t give your teammates a chance to get back onside, get set, get in their slots, number up and get forward.
“So that tackle does not get rewarded.”
