As the Ben Hunt contract saga enters its second week, NRL players Aaron Woods and Wade Graham have offered their take on the turmoil at the Dragons.
Woods and Graham say they are unsure of Hunt’s motivation to leave St George Illawarra and don’t expect a resolution any time soon.
LISTEN TO AARON WOODS AND WADE GRAHAM PULL APART BEN HUNT’S RELEASE REQUEST ON FOOTY TALK:
League legend Gordon Tallis says the NRL’s powerbrokers must change the rules to avoid situations like the one Hunt and the Dragons find themselves in.
Tallis famously sat out a season while contracted with St George in the mid-1990’s, but the former Australia captain doesn’t expect that to happen to Hunt despite only 10 rounds remaining in the regular season.
Hunt met with the Dragons on Monday, with reports saying the club has refused to grant the halfback a release.
Hunt says he wants to return home to Queensland and has been linked with the Broncos this season and the Gold Coast Titans from 2024 onwards.
The 33-year-old spent nine seasons at the Broncos before switching the Dragons in 2018.
Now we wait and see if Hunt suits up in the Red V for Thursday night’s clash with the Sharks at PointsBet Stadium.
