“He Had A Short Fuse”: When Brad Haddin Got Totally Stitched Up By Dom Thornely

Josh Philippe’s not the only wicket keeper to stuff up a high catch, as Brad Haddin recalled on the latest episode of Willow Talk.

WHEN HADDIN COPPED A ‘JOSH PHILIPPE’:

Hadds joined Adam Peacock and Bharat Sundaresan on the latest episode of Willow Talk, in which the comical non-catch between Philippe and Dan Christian from the Sixers/Scorchers BBL qualifier was addressed.

Philippe was all set under a high ball from Ashton Turner with the Scorchers three wickets down and cruising in their chase – but Christian was set under it as well.

The end result? Neither player went for the coach, and Turner saw the Scorchers home for the win with a match-winning 84 not out.

“It was like Benny Hill!” he laughed.

But it’s not all a laughing matter for Haddin.

That’s because it’s happened to him in a classic case of getting thrown under the bus – and a spray from coach Steve Rixon.

“Josh Philippe and Dan Christian – I’ve had that moment,” he recalled.

“Michael Di Venuto’s hit one straight up in the air. I’ve run in, I had it covered easily, and Dom Thornely from deep point said ‘Hadds, stop, it’s Nicho’s!’

“So I stopped and the ball bounced 30 centimetres in front of my left foot. I caught it one hand, one bounce. Lobbed it back to the bowler, who was Matthew Nicholson, and walked back.

But the damage wasn’t even close to done.

“As I was walking off, you remember the great Steve Rixon? He had a short fuse. I could see him waiting at the gate…”
