Haddin Explains The Uncomfortable Truth With England’s ‘Legacy Team’ Dreams

Ashes great Brad Haddin says there is one crucial factor that will elevate Ben Stokes’ England to the legacy status they crave.

Stokes says he wants his side to be remembered for the way it plays Test cricket – with an attacking, proactive approach – that will hopefully inspire generations to play the longest format of the game, but Haddin says only one thing matters if Stokes is to achieve his goal.

HEAR BRAD HADDIN’S REACTION TO BEN STOKES’ LEGACY GOALS ON THE WILLOW TALK CRICKET PODCAST:

Speaking after the drawn fourth Test in Manchester, where rained ruined any chance England had of beating Australia and levelling the series, Stokes said his side’s attacking, entertaining approach has been a success whether or not is shows in the results column.

“I think what we’ve managed to do has already done wonders for cricket in England,” Stokes said.

“I said in the dressing room that the reward for your work isn’t what you get, it’s what you become.

“And I think what we’ve managed to become is a team that people will remember.

“We’ve become a team that have been so unbelievably well followed and we will live long in the memories of those who have watched us.

“As much as I would love to be an Ashes-winning captain, I want this team to be a legacy team.

“Regardless of how the series ends up, people will always talk about us.”
