Jonathan Brown told a hilarious story this morning about legendary coach Leigh Matthews spraying the Brisbane playing group after they’d won their third consecutive flag in 2003.
BROWNY ON LEIGH MATTHEWS SPRAYING BRISBANE PLAYERS IN 2003:
“We copped the biggest spray of all time in 2003 after we won our third,” Browny said on the Marty Sheargold Show.
“The boys got a bit carried away — not naming anyone, apart from Aker — in the post-game, so we just threw a barbs at Collingwood.
“Leigh straightened us up on the Wednesday, he gave us the greatest cook of all time.”
Never miss anything with the Best of Triple M Footy playlist:
Browny said the spray was Lethal’s reminder not to let their heads get too inflated by the threepeat.
“Probably maybe that our heads didn’t fit our hats anymore,” he said when asked for the gist of the cook.
“We were just getting a bit ahead of ourselves and needed to pull ourselves into line if we were gonna come back and contend.
“Leigh was always good at levelling us out a bit!”
MORE FROM JONATHAN BROWN:
Browny also told a now-famous story about Justin Leppitsch’s jab at Matthews after the third flag that copped probably the best retort of all time.
“Leppitsch said to Leigh Matthews ‘where would you be without us Leigh?’,” Browny said.
“And he goes ’nah, you’re right Leppa’, with that squeaky voice.
“Without you boys I’d only be the greatest player of all time!”
MORE TRIPLE M FOOTY:
Browny also discussed the Lions’ chances of knocking off Collingwood in the grand final, the two clubs’ rivalries, and the 2003 flag reunion that’s happening this weekend.
