Jay Clark’s Update On The Battle Between Sydney And Port Adelaide For Brodie Grundy

Triple M Footy news breaker Jay Clark has given an update on the Sunday Recovery on how the battle for Brodie Grundy between Sydney and Port Adelaide is playing out.

JAY CLARK ON SYDNEY AND PORT ADELAIDE BATTLING FOR BRODIE GRUNDY:

“I think Sydney are equally a huge chance,” Jay said when asked by Daisy Thomas if Port Adelaide are still the Grundy front runners.

“He’s from South Australia, we know that, and Port Adelaide have a very keen interest because Scotty Lycett might be leaving the club.

“But Sydney are also making moves.

“Johnny Longmire believes that they’re in the window, we know good their midfield is, but it’s down the spine where Sydney really need some support.”

Jay-Z pointed out that, crucially, Sydney have better picks that could satisfy the kind of trade Melbourne might be looking for.

Port Adelaide, meanwhile, spent a lot of trade capital last year on the acquisitions of Willie Rioli and Jason Horne-Francis.

MORE ON PORT ADELAIDE:

Damian Barrett, meanwhile, also flagged Sydney as a potentially significant player in the upcoming trade period.

DAMO ON SYDNEY’S TRADE PLANS:

“Sydney’s gonna be a watch this space on everything they do,” Damo said on the Rush Hour with JB & Billy.

“They’re into Ben McKay and they’re into Brodie Grundy.

“There’s a chance they could get both, there’s a chance they could miss both, and that’s the landscape.

Damo also pointed out that Sydney will have cap space to play with.

“Let’s work with a raw number between 400 and 500,000 with Bud (Buddy Franklin) this year, so there’s at least that money,” he said of Sydney’s cap.

“Paddy McCartin will come off the books… Tom Hickey comes off the books, you add all that up and you’ve got a nice little package for one of those two players.”

MORE ON BRODIE GRUNDY:

On the Sunday Recovery, Daisy Thomas flagged that Grundy still has the chance to be a hero for Melbourne.

“I love the fact that there may be the option that Brodie Grundy becomes the saviour for Melbourne this season,” he said.

“Imagine you put him to full forward, he competes well, he kicks four, he gets you across the line, he then gets it done.

“If he kicks four you’re not dropping him, then all of a sudden you get to the end of the season and go ‘uh, apologies for saying we probably didn’t need you buddy, do you want to hang around?’”
