Right now, Australians are flocking to Turkey for cosmetic procedures deemed too costly in Australia.
Footage of people bandaged up on flights leaving Turkey and hashtags like “Turkey teeth” or “Turkey hair” are trending on TikTok.
It is more affordable to get a butt lift, tummy tuck, hair transplant or veneers in Turkey. One medical tourism firm, Estetica Istanbul says Australian bookings have jumped from one or two a month to 10. Another firm, Surgery Savior, says at least 10 per cent of its 70 aesthetic procedures and hair transplants a month now go to Australians.
On today’s episode of The Briefing, we meet Michael, one of the thousands of Australians who has had a hair transplant in Turkey.
“So they take you straight from the airport. They drop you off at a five-star hotel. The next morning, a chauffeur picks you up and takes you straight to the hospital where the procedure is taking place.”
