Emergency services responded to the scene following the call at approximately 6am.

SA Police Senior Constable Kimberley Broad confirmed that the driver, a man in his 50s, was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in serious condition.

“The driver has been safely removed and taken to the hospital,” Senior Constable Broad said.

In addition to causing severe injuries to the driver, the collision left Glen Osmond Road strewn with debris, rendering it impassable for traffic in both directions.

Authorities have closed the road and prompted commuters to seek alternative routes.

“The car hit a Stobie pole and has subsequently knocked out power in the area,” Senior Constable Broad added.

Emergency crews and electricity authorities are currently on-site working to restore power and clear the road of debris.

Meanwhile, police have urged motorists to avoid Glen Osmond Road to ease traffic congestion in the affected areas.
