The war in the Middle East continues to impact hundreds of thousands of innocent people, with Save The Children now estimating more than 21,000 children are missing.
Many are trapped beneath rubble, detained, buried in unmarked graves, or lost from their families.
Save The Children’s Head of Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy, Alexandra Saieh, told The Briefing what needs to happen to protect children in Gaza.
Alexandra Saieh from Save The Children unpacks the crisis on The Briefing:
Save The Children conducted a survey on children’s mental health in Gaza, and found three out of five children had thoughts of self-harm.
“Four out of five children were suffering from depression and other symptoms, which include bed wetting and nightmares,” Saieh said.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) shows that 745,000 people in Gaza face emergency conditions of food insecurity. Emergency conditions include acute malnutrition and an increased risk of hunger-related death.
“This war has robbed children of their childhoods, of any sort of sense of safety and security.”
