New data from YouGov reveals that 80 per cent of Australians are gearing up for Christmas, with 42 per cent planning to buy gifts for six or more people.
Among all the gift options, gift cards are the top pick for 54 per cent of shoppers, followed by clothing (46 per cent), books (39 per cent), and toys (38 per cent).
CEO of YouGov Asia-Pacific, Laura Robbie, said: “The holiday season remains one of the biggest moments in the retail calendar.”

Despite financial pressures, 72 per cent of Australian Christmas shoppers plan to maintain or increase their spending compared to last year.
Meanwhile, 23 per cent expect to cut back on their holiday budgets.
Parents are among the most generous, often opting for toys and tech gifts for their children, while younger shoppers (aged 18–34) prefer jewellery, cosmetics, and fashion accessories.
When it comes to shopping habits, 52 per cent of Australians favour in-store purchases, particularly those aged over 35.
The findings reveal that word of mouth from friends and family remains the top source of gift ideas for 34 per cent of buyers, ahead of TV ads (16 per cent) and social media (10 per cent).
Interestingly, the report shows that men are more likely to leave their holiday shopping until the last minute, while women tend to plan ahead.
It also highlights that 90 per cent of Christmas gift buyers “always” or “sometimes” take advantage of sales and promotions.
