McDonald’s Australia has announced a temporary change to its breakfast menu availability in response to a nationwide egg shortage caused by a growing bird flu outbreak.
The fast-food giant will now serve breakfast until 10:30am instead of the usual midday, reducing the breakfast window by 90 minutes.

“Like many retailers, we are carefully managing the supply of eggs due to the current industry challenges,” McDonald’s Australia said in a statement online.
“We know our customers love a Macca’s breakfast, so to make sure we can continue to serve up fresh Aussie eggs on our menu, we’ll be temporarily offering breakfast until 10:30 am only (usually available until midday) across Australia.”
Despite the reduced hours, McDonald’s assured customers that their popular breakfast items, including the Bacon & Egg McMuffin, Sausage & Egg McMuffin, and Big Brekkie Burger, will still be available.
Hash browns will continue to be offered all day.
The change follows similar measures by other retailers, such as Woolworths and Coles, which recently imposed a two-pack purchase limit on eggs in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria due to the egg shortage.
“We are working closely with all of our suppliers to ensure eggs remain available for our customers,” Coles spokesperson said.
“Thank you to our customers for their patience and support. We’ll see you soon for breakfast at Macca’s!”
However, McDonald’s did not specify how long the new breakfast hours would remain in effect.
The company said it would work closely with Australian farmers, producers, and suppliers to navigate the ongoing supply challenges.
