Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been all over the internet the last couple of weeks, and she’s kind of become a hero, but do you know her story?
In short, Gypsy Rose was the victim of her mother’s Munchausen by Proxy – a psychological disorder which sees parents or caregivers exaggerate or make up medical conditions in their children.
All those who came across Gypsy Rose’s mother, DeeDee, were convinced by her that her daughter suffered from Leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and many other conditions which resulted in Gypsy requiring a wheelchair and feeding tube.
Eventually though, Gypsy Rose released everything wasn’t making sense.
At 21-years-ols, Gypsy Rose met Nicholas Godejohn in a chat room, and they later started dating and plotting DeeDee’s murder.
In June 2015, Nicholas stabbed DeeDee to death and 48 hours later, the pair were arrested.
Nicholas received life and Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years prison for second degree murder.
On December 28 2023, after serving just under nine years, Gypsy Rose walked free and has since become an internet sensation.
In this episode of The Briefing, Bension Siebert is joined by Sacha Barbour Gatt to breakdown the life of Gypsy Rose and how her release has brought on a newly-found fame.
