Jimmy Barnes has paid tribute to his friend and mentor Michael Gudinski.
This week marks two years since the death of Michael, who helped shape the Australian music industry. His label Mushroom signed bands including Skyhooks, Hunters and Collectors and the Angels.
Jimmy confirmed the story that Michael actually turned down signing Cold Chisel.
“He could have signed Cold Chisel in about 1975 and he went ‘Nah, they’re not gonna work. I was his mate then. I said ‘What are you doing!’”

Barnes signed to Mushroom for his solo career, which saw him become one of Australia’s most successful musicians.
“I’ve known Michael for 50 years, worked together for 40, literally been through hell and high water. Michael and I had been through everything, we’d seen the highs and lows. I have a great career and it wouldn’t have happened without Michael there.”
