Ten Steps To Nanette With Hannah Gadsby

Hannah Gadsby, is one of Australia’s most successful exports. When the Tasmanian born comedian started touring her live comedy show Hannah Gadsby: Nanette in 2017, it wasn’t long before Netflix came through, recording the show at the Sydney Opera House. It catapulted Gadsby to international fame overnight.

Gadsby’s show captured audiences with her hilariously witty narration of her own life and experiences of trauma, blended with evocative social commentary on the LGBTQ+, women’s perspectives, mental illness and heterosexual patriarchy. Nanette won a Peabody Award as well as Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards.

“The world is on the struggle bus for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with comedy Comedians could really just take a big spoonful of calm down.”

Jan Fran caught up with the comedian to talk her new book (already a New York Times bestseller) “Ten Steps To Nanette”: chronicling her upbringing, growing up queer in Tasmania, during a time when it was illegal, the build up to her hit show and understanding autism and ADHD. We also chat about that Dave Schapelle controversy and how Gadsby deals with the pressures of fame.
