She’ll make you smile, and give you goosebumps, all in one. Gold Medallist Nina Kennedy recently shared her unforgettable Paris pole vaulting experience on The Howie Games — and it’s nothing short of a rollercoaster of spectacular.
Nina’s family and friends, packed into the stands of Stade de France and they were utterly mesmerized by the high-flying drama of pole vaulting.
But, as Kennedy jokes, their etiquette needs some work.
“A lot of them hadn’t really seen pole vault live in action before, at such a high level. And it was kind of like, they were cheering when the other girls would miss.
“How do I like to explain it. It’s like you’re cheering when somebody double faults in tennis, like it’s rude, but it’s part of the game kind of thing.”
From the lighter moments, to the emotions of claiming Olympic gold, the real magic happened when Nina faced the climactic moment of her career. In a heart-stopping finale, as the bar fell for her competitor Katie, Nina seized gold.
“It was one of the highest highs I’ve ever felt. After 15 years in this sport, reaching the pinnacle with an Olympic gold—damn, it felt incredible!”
Rather than a sigh of relief, Nina’s reaction was pure pride. She marvelled at how she and her team had dared to dream big and achieved their goal.
“I was just f***ing proud,” she exclaimed, highlighting that the overwhelming feeling was one of accomplishment and exhilaration.
