Retired Police Inspector Neil Royal details Gary Hayes’ theft of a military tank and subsequent rampage on the WA police in Perth 30 years ago today via Xav and Michelle for Breakfast.
“Military vehicles don’t have ignition keys…they’re only kept in the hangars with the cyclone wire fence and through you go,” Neil said on Xav and Michelle for Breakfast.
“He had a grudge...the boys were saying, “How do we stop this frickin thing?”
“He was about to do Parliament House…that’s when the TAG (Tactical Assault Group) boys, to their credit, jumped on top and dropped a couple of tear gas canisters down one of the hatches and out he came.”
