AFL Monitors Victorian Heat Conditions Ahead Of Round One

The AFL is monitoring high heat conditions across Victorian matches this weekend, Nick Riewoldt suggesting shorter quarters could be a possible mitigation.

“I don’t mind it. Shortened season and shorter games,” Roo said on Triple M’s Mick In The Morning.

“Everyone is going to a more palatable, digestible games for fans. If you have a blowout, it [becomes] a long day.”

The Geelong-Fremantle match at GMHBA Stadium holds the highest risk of heat policy – with temperatures expected to reach above 37 degrees.

It comes a week after the league postponed Opening Round games in Queensland due to the tropical cyclone threat on the east coast.

Potential mitigations include longer breaks between quarters and having extra water carries on hand.
