Bernard Fanning Talks About The Time He ‘Flogged’ Coldplay At Cricket

Aussie Rock legend Bernard Fanning is a full cricket nuff. He even made his commentary debut on Triple M last summer. He is even a tidy player, as he revealed to The Rush Hour with JB & Billy, once taking British band Coldplay “to the cleaners!”

The Powderfinger frontman was skipper of the Australian ‘Big Day Out’ team who beat a side captained by Chris Martin. But not the Chris Martin who played for New Zealand.

“Different guy. Same amount of hair,” laughed Fanning, as he remembered “flogging” the Englishmen.

“We took them to the cleaners!”

We knew the Poms always struggle against us but we didn’t realise it had got to the stage that blokes like Bernard Fanning flogged Coldplay at cricket!

Bernard Fanning was speaking as he launched his new Aussie mega-band ‘Fanning Dempsey National Park’ alongside Something For Kate’s Paul Dempsey.

The band’s new album ‘The Deluge’ has been described by Triple M’s Rosie Walton as “The coolest Australian album I’ve heard in 15 years”.

Meanwhile, watch out for Fanning Dempsey National Park coming to a city near you this October and November. They’re playing “all our favourite venues” with details on their website.

Don’t expect covers of their classics, though. The band is a completely original creation and perform their own work, which has got everyone at Triple M very excited. It promises to be an awesome tour that we’re proud to support.

As well as looking ahead to that, Bernard Fanning also has his eyes on the next two summers of cricket.

“It’s important we knock India over. Obviously the Ashes, but we need to beat India.”

Check out Bernard’s debut as a cricket commentator on Day One of the Brisbane Test 2024 – right here on Triple M, of course:

Legendary Aussie singer-songwriter, handy cricketer, Pom-basher par excellence, and aspiring commentator. This bloke’s got the lot. Bernard Fanning flogged Coldplay at cricket – and that’s just one of the reasons he’s up there with our heroes.

Keep it on Triple M for more Fanning Dempsey National Park, Powderfinger, JB & Billy, and Test cricket.
