He’s the man behind Australia’s favourite TV character, Ray Meagher aka Alf Stewart, but many won’t be aware that he was once a budding rugby star. Triple M’s Marto, Margaux and Dan host and former Wallaby Greg Martin giving everyone a history lesson on Meagher’s sporting prowess this morning.
“He had twinkles toes plus bone shuddering defence” Martin said. Before becoming a Gold Logie winning actor, Meagher was plying his trade on the rugby fields of Brisbane where he played five-eighth for the Reds including an international match against a visiting French side.
Rather than talk up his chances of winning a Silver Logie this weekend Meagher felt more comfortable giving new Wallabies coach, Eddie Jones, some tips on his team selections for this weekend’s Bledisloe Cup test against the All Blacks.
