Brent Read | How Roosters Helped Rabbitohs For Wighton’s Signature

‘He obviously has a great relationship with Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker,’ said Read.

Though, putting friendships aside, the Rabbitohs may have their nemesis Sydney Roosters to thank.

‘For first graders, they [would] get $1500-$2000 a game.

‘It ended up being rejected and they just rolled that money into the cap.’

The rejection of this notion is the major reason why Souths have been able to possibly get Wighton.

‘It meant it wasn’t dispersed to everyone equally, you can just throw it all at one player if you want to.

‘One of the clubs that was a driving force behind that was the Roosters.

‘Now that’s happened, Souths have a bit more money to play with.

‘They probably have their arch rivals to thank if they land [him].’
