“It Builds On To The Next Person”: Tex Walker Addresses Adelaide’s Inaccuracy Against Collingwood

Adelaide spearhead Tex Walker addressed the Crows’ inaccurate goal kicking that cost them dearly in a heartbreaking one-point loss to Collingwood on Sunday.

TEX WALKER ON ADELAIDE INACCURACY:

“If you look at the three games we’ve lost, I think two of them we should have won, and that’s because we didn’t kick straight,” Tex said on Triple M Breakfast with Roo, Ditts and Loz.

“It just builds and builds, as Nicksy (coach Matthew Nicks) said post-game, it builds and builds on the next person.

“So we’ve got a bit of work to do with our goal kicking for sure… I remember Craigy (ex-coach Neil Craig) used to say there’s a hardness in finishing, and I totally agree with him.

“We get paid to finish to our goals, we’ve gotta finish our goals to put the ball back in the centre and we play our way.

“Otherwise you give the opposition just a little sniff.”

Tex said that he’s had the shoe on the other foot before, and understands how much of a psychological boost it can be when the opposition are missing shots.

“I’ve been on the other side, where teams miss, and you just go ‘that’s exactly what we wanted’,” he said.

Tex said that goal kicking is not a club wide issue, and in fact he’d found players who had moved to the Crows from other teams around the competition had been surprised by the Adelaide emphasis on the skill.

“A few boys that have come from other clubs have said ‘I can’t believe how much goal kicking you guys do’ which is real good feedback for us that we do, do the work,” he said.

“Now we need to translate it when the pressure is on and in front of 40,000 people.

“We’re working on it.”
